CBC Guides is an independent website for Kenyan parents and guardians trying to make sense of Competency-Based Education (CBE/CBC). Since the move from 8-4-4, families have had to learn a new vocabulary: learning areas, strands, school-based assessment, KPSEA, KJSEA, pathways and clusters. They have also had to make big decisions, like senior school choices, from sources that are often contradictory. We try to give one clear, checked explanation.
What We Publish
- Parent guides to each assessment, the grading system, senior school placement and pathways.
- Grade guides for Grades 4 to 9, including what each Grade 9 learning area covers.
- Fees information: the gazetted public school fees, capitation, bursaries, and individual school fee structures.
How We Work
- Official sources first. We rely on documents from KNEC, KICD, the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Gazette, and we link them. Where we use news reports, we say so.
- No guessed numbers. If we cannot verify a fee or a figure from an official or published source, we say that plainly rather than estimate. School fee articles are written only from the school’s own published fee document.
- Dated content. Education rules change. Each article shows when it was last reviewed, and we state “as of” dates for time-sensitive facts.
- Corrections. If you spot an error or an outdated figure, please tell us through our contact page. We correct mistakes promptly.
What We Are Not
CBC Guides is not affiliated with the Ministry of Education, KNEC, KICD or any school. Nothing on this site is an official notice. Always confirm deadlines, placements and fees with the relevant authority or school. We do not accept payment from schools for fee listings.
