School Fees in Kenya 2026: Guides and School-by-School Fee Structures

School fees are the question parents ask us most. This hub brings together our fees guides and our school-by-school fee articles. We follow two rules. Public school figures come from the Kenya Gazette and Ministry of Education circulars. Individual school figures come only from the school’s own published fee structure, which we link and date. We never estimate a school’s fees. Figures are as of October 2026.

The short answer for public schools in 2026: public day senior schools charge parents KSh 0. Public boarding senior schools may charge up to KSh 53,554 a year, or KSh 40,535 for schools on the lower ceiling, paid 50:30:20 across the three terms. Public junior schools are funded by capitation and should not charge levies.

Each article below is written from that school’s own 2026 fee document. It gives the full fee table, extras, payment details as published, and how the school compares with the government guidelines.

We add schools in batches, each checked against its own published document. Public schools rarely publish fee documents online. Their fees are capped by the gazette (see above).

Before You Pay Any School

  1. Get the official fee structure from the school, by vote head.
  2. Pay only into the school’s official bank account or paybill, and keep every receipt.
  3. For a public school, ask to see written approval for any levy beyond the gazetted fees.
  4. If fees are a barrier, ask about a signed payment plan. Public boarding schools may not send learners home for boarding fee arrears.

Business Radar also publishes fee structure guides for Kenyan schools.
