Alliance High School opened on 1 March 1926 under the Alliance of Protestant Missions: the Church of Scotland Mission (later PCEA), the Church of the Province of Kenya (now the Anglican Church of Kenya), the African Inland Church, the Friends Church (Quakers) and the Methodist Church, according to the school’s official history page. Dr John Arthur of the Kikuyu mission pushed for it, and George Arthur Grieve was the first headmaster, choosing 27 pioneer students; Edward Carey Francis took over in 1940. It was the first school to prepare Africans for the Cambridge School Certificate. The motto is “Strong to Serve”. The school sits about 22 km from Nairobi and 2 km from Kikuyu town, a ten-minute walk from its sister school, Alliance Girls, and marks its centenary in 2026.
Results, Campus and Alumni
In KCSE 2025 Alliance entered 461 candidates and posted a mean of 10.47 with 128 straight As, up from 10.28 in 2024 (Rejnac Daily; The Standard’s national round-up reported the same 128 A plain and 141 A-). The Kenya News Agency reported that the 2024 class produced 100 A grades and lifted the mean from 9.5 in 2023 to about 10.3. Those numbers matter for placement: Alliance is among the most requested C1 schools in the country, so treat it as an ambitious choice rather than your only one.
The campus covers about 153 acres outside Kikuyu town. The school lists athletics, badminton, basketball, baseball, football, handball, hockey, lawn tennis, rugby, swimming and table tennis among its games. Its old boys include writer Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Charles Njonjo, James Orengo, Anyang’ Nyong’o and Kimani Ichung’wah.
The school’s own centenary pages show its first dormitory and first building from 1926 and a science block complex opened in 1970 by President Jomo Kenyatta. A new teaching complex was completed in 2009. Families aiming for Alliance should also consider the other C1 and C2 boys’ schools in Kiambu.

Choosing Alliance High School for Grade 10
It can take one of your 12 slots; balance it with C2 to C4 schools and confirm the pathway it runs. Useful: pathways, the KJSEA grade calculator, and all Kiambu schools.
