Grade 9 Creative Arts and Sports: What the CBC Curriculum Covers and How It Is Assessed

Creative Arts and Sports combines visual arts, performing arts (music and drama) and physical education and sports. It has five lessons a week in Grade 9, as many as Mathematics. It leads directly to the Arts and Sports Science pathway in senior school, but it is assessed for every learner. This page is current as of October 2026.

How Creative Arts and Sports Is Assessed in KJSEA

  • 911/1 Project: a three-month project from May to July 2026. It is the longest KJSEA project, and for this year’s candidates it is already complete.
  • 911/2 written paper: Thursday 29 October 2026, 2.00–3.40 p.m. (1 hour 40 minutes).

Revision Tips for Parents

  • Revise the theory, not only the practice. The written paper is separate from the project, so revise the concepts behind each sub-strand: techniques, rules of the games, and how to analyse a performance or artwork.
  • Watch and discuss. A football match, a church choir or a school play can become practice in “appreciation”: what worked, and why?
  • Keep materials cheap. Locally available materials are encouraged for craft and mosaic (see hidden CBC costs).
  • Take talent seriously. If your child shines here, read about the Arts and Sports Science pathway.
