How We Check Every Question

Every question on CBC Guides is written by the CBC Guides team and checked by a teacher before a learner sees it. We are an independent revision site, not KICD or KNEC. What we can show you is exactly how we check them, and what that checking has caught so far.

What We Check Against

We work from the KICD curriculum designs for Mathematics, Science and Technology or Integrated Science, and English, Grades 4 to 9: the revised 2024 editions for Grades 4 to 6 and the rationalised 2024 editions for Grades 7 to 9. Every question in the CBC Challenge and topic drills carries a tag naming the strand and sub-strand it comes from, so we can trace it back to the design.

One honest caveat: KICD publishes these designs as view-only files, so our copies come from Kenyan education sites that re-host them unchanged, with the KICD title pages and ISBNs. We have not yet checked every copy against the KICD originals.

The Checks Every Question Goes Through

  1. We solve it ourselves. Every Maths and Science question is worked out again from scratch, and every numeric answer is recomputed, not copied from the draft.
  2. One right answer. There must be exactly one answer a careful learner can defend. The wrong options have to be believable mistakes, not giveaways.
  3. The right grade. The topic must be in that grade’s curriculum design. A KPSEA paper can use Grade 4 to 6 content and a KJSEA paper Grade 7 to 9. Nothing from a higher grade.
  4. Clear wording and a real explanation. The question has to read cleanly for the age group, and the worked answer has to show the steps, so a parent can follow it too.
  5. Kenyan settings and units. Shillings, kilograms and litres, matatus and shambas, and facts that are true for Kenya.
  6. Kiswahili grammar. Ngeli agreement, tense and negation, reported speech and the wording of methali and nahau are all checked.
  7. No repeats. New questions are compared with the ones already on the site, so a child doesn’t meet the same question twice in one drill.

What the Checks Have Found

We would rather tell you what we fixed than pretend nothing was wrong.

  • Curriculum check, 18 October 2026. All 214 CBC Challenge questions were checked against the designs. 105 were replaced or reworded, nearly all because the topic is real CBC content but taught in a different grade: the cell is Grade 8, not Grade 7, for example. No answer was found to be factually wrong.
  • Second full review, 18 October 2026. We went through the Challenge bank and every online revision paper again, the way a strict examiner would. We changed 157 questions. Most were grade-fit fixes (127). The rest included 7 Kiswahili grammar fixes, 6 factual or Kenyan-context fixes, 6 weak or giveaway options, 4 unclear wordings, 4 questions with two defensible answers, 2 duplicates and 1 wrong answer key, which we corrected. We also undid 2 changes from the first pass when we found the original questions had been right.
  • Topic drills, 19 October 2026. We wrote 463 new questions so every Grade 6 and Grade 9 Maths, English and Science topic in the What to Revise report has at least 10 practice questions. Each one was written individually and went through the same checks.

Practice Material, Not Official Papers

Our papers follow the KNEC format and timings, but they are original CBC Guides questions, not past KNEC papers and not predictions of what will come in the exam. Use them for revision at home alongside what your child does in class.

Spot an Error? Tell Us

If you think an answer is wrong, a question is unclear or it doesn’t match what your child was taught, tell us through the contact page. Say which paper or quiz and which question. We check every report and fix the question if we got it wrong.
