Grade 9 Pre-Technical Studies: What the CBC Curriculum Covers and How It Is Assessed

Pre-Technical Studies combines what used to be Pre-Technical, Business and Computer Studies. It has four lessons a week in Grade 9, with a suggested 120 lessons in the revised design. It is the only learning area that touches technical drawing, programming and business planning, so it often shows parents a side of their child they had not seen. This page is accurate as of October 2026.

How Pre-Technical Studies Is Assessed in KJSEA

  • 912/2 Project: a one-month project done in school in July 2026. For this year’s candidates it is already complete.
  • 912/1 written paper: Friday 30 October 2026, 8.30–10.10 a.m. (1 hour 40 minutes).

Revision Tips for Parents

  • Sketch everyday objects in oblique projection. A box, a stool or a book. It is a quick, visual skill to practise.
  • Talk money. M-Pesa, SACCOs, banks and taxes are all part of financial services and government and business. Real family examples help.
  • Safety first. Questions on safety, hazardous substances and tool use are common. Ask your child to explain safe practice for a ladder or a hammer.
  • Outline a business plan. Help your child draft a one-page plan for a small idea, such as selling eggs.
