Makini Primary School Kisumu City is the CBE (CBC) primary school of the private Makini group on its Kisumu City campus. The group also runs a junior school and a senior school on the same campus, and a separate preschool campus at Migosi. Makini posted its 2027 fee structures on its fees page in October 2026. All figures below come from the Makini Primary School Kisumu City fee structure 2027 (PDF) and the Kisumu City campus 2026 transport sheet (PDF). This page is accurate as of October 2026.

Grade 557,52257,52257,522172,567
Grade 657,52257,52257,522172,567

The sheet starts at Grade 2. It has no Grade 1 row. Makini’s Migosi campus sheet lists Playgroup to Grade 1, so it looks as if Kisumu children do Grade 1 at Migosi and move to the City campus for Grade 2. The sheets do not say so directly, so confirm with Admissions where a Grade 1 child will be taught.

The published totals are each KSh 1 away from three times the termly fee (for example, 3 × 57,522 is 172,566, not 172,567). That is rounding. The only real step is into upper primary: Grade 4 costs KSh 9,128 a term more than Grade 3. Grades 4, 5 and 6 then stay at the same fee. Tuition includes lunch, tea break, computer, games and swimming, and chess.

The termly extras add KSh 2,850 a term, or KSh 8,550 a year. In Kisumu they are a bigger share of the bill than in Nairobi. On Grade 2 tuition they add about 6%. The joining charges come to KSh 18,260, of which KSh 13,500 is a refundable deposit.

Transport (per Term, 2026 Rates), KSh

The Kisumu City transport sheet has seven zones. Zone 1 (Tom Mboya, Okore, Highrise, Town Centre, Obama Estate, Kibuye, Mamba, Kondele) costs KSh 12,428 one way or KSh 13,972 two way. Zone 6 (Mbale, Ahero, Obambo, Chulaimbo) costs KSh 21,692 / KSh 23,237, and a special Zone 7 (Ayweyo, Boya, Stand Kisa, Luanda) costs KSh 29,052 / KSh 31,121. Our Makini Junior School Kisumu City article has the full zone table. Two way costs only a little more than one way in Kisumu, so most families who need transport will choose two way. Transport needs an approved form from the transport office (+254 741 918 054), and 2027 rates may differ.

Discounts and How to Pay

  • Annual discount: 5% for paying the year in advance, about KSh 7,184 on Grade 2 or KSh 8,628 on Grades 4–6.
  • Sibling discount: 5% off tuition from the fourth child, given on the youngest sibling’s fee.
  • Pay to The Makini School Limited at Absa Bank Kenya, Hurlingham branch, account 0451200518, or by M-Pesa paybill 932271. Use the student’s file number as the reference.
  • Fees are due on the first day of each term. Accounts: 0719 232 887.

A First-Year Example

A new Grade 2 learner from Kibuye (Zone 1, two way) in 2027 would pay 143,681 tuition + 2,040 application + 2,720 registration + 13,500 refundable deposit + 8,550 PTA, activity and insurance + 500 diary + 41,916 transport = KSh 212,907, before uniform and books. This is our arithmetic, at 2026 transport rates.

How It Compares

Makini’s Kisumu primary costs well under half of its Nairobi primaries. Grade 6 is KSh 172,567 a year here, against KSh 360,304 at Makini Primary Ngong Road, about 2.1 times as much, with the same listed inclusions. Moving on to Makini Junior School Kisumu City for Grade 7 adds KSh 7,003 a term (KSh 64,525). Public primary schools charge no tuition, though parents still buy uniform and some materials (see hidden CBC costs). For other western Kenya private schools, see The Nambale Magnet School in Busia, and for more schools see the fees hub.
