Makini Junior School Runda is the Grade 7 to 9 section of the private Makini School group’s Runda campus in northern Nairobi. The same campus runs a preschool, a primary school and Makini’s senior and high school, so a child can in principle stay on one site from Day Care to Grade 12. Makini posted its 2027 fee structures on its fees page in October 2026. Every figure below comes from the Makini Junior School Runda CBE fee structure 2027 (PDF) and the campus’s 2026 transport sheet (PDF). This page is accurate as of October 2026.

One fee covers all three grades and all three terms. Three times 151,554 is 454,662, so the printed yearly total is KSh 1 lower. That is a rounding difference, not a hidden charge. Tuition includes lunch, tea break, computer, games and swimming, and chess.
Because the fee does not rise between Grade 7 and Grade 9, the 2027 sheet lets a family budget the whole junior school stage at one rate. It will only hold if Makini keeps the same fee for 2028 and 2029, which no school promises.

A new learner pays KSh 25,070 in one-off charges, of which KSh 11,395 is a deposit you should get back. Runda’s joining costs are set differently from Makini’s Ngong Road and Kisumu campuses. Those sheets charge a KSh 2,720 registration fee and a KSh 13,500 deposit, while Runda charges a larger non-refundable admission fee of KSh 11,395. Runda’s termly PTA fund is KSh 500, half the KSh 1,000 on the Ngong Road and Kisumu sheets. Keep the receipt for the deposit, because you will need it when your child leaves.

Transport changes the bill a lot. Two-way transport from Zone 1 adds KSh 60,480 a year, while Zone 5 adds KSh 192,000, which is 42% of a year’s tuition. Families who live near Runda, Muthaiga or Ruaka pay much less. Transport is only given after the transport office approves an application form (+254 701 807 681 or +254 113 832 555). These are 2026 rates. Makini has not posted 2027 transport charges. The sheet’s banner also names the Ngong Road and State House Avenue campuses, which looks like a leftover from another sheet, but the zones are plainly built around Runda.
Discounts and How to Pay
- Annual discount: 5% for paying the year in advance. On Junior School tuition this is worth about KSh 22,733.
- Sibling discount: 5% off tuition from the fourth child, applied to the youngest sibling’s fee. Families with two or three children get no sibling discount.
- Pay to The Makini School Limited, Absa Bank Kenya, Hurlingham branch, account 0451200518, or M-Pesa paybill 932271. Use the student’s file number (up to six digits) as the reference, or Accounts may not be able to match your payment.
- Fees are due on the first day of each term. A learner is admitted to class only after paying. Accounts department: 0719 232 887.
A First-Year Example
A new Grade 7 learner in 2027 who lives in Ruaka (Zone 2) and takes two-way transport would pay 454,661 tuition + 2,280 application + 11,395 admission + 11,395 refundable deposit + 3,300 PTA and insurance (three terms) + 500 diary + 100,800 transport = KSh 584,331. That is before uniform and books, and at 2026 transport rates. This is our arithmetic. From Grade 8 the one-off KSh 25,070 falls away.
How It Compares
Runda junior school costs KSh 6,873 a term more than Makini Junior School Ngong Road (KSh 144,681), or KSh 20,619 a year, with the same listed inclusions. It is about 2.3 times the fee at Makini Junior School Kisumu City (KSh 64,525 a term). The step into Makini Senior and High School Runda is small: Grade 10 there is KSh 152,258 a term, only KSh 704 more. Among other Nairobi private junior schools, Riara Junior School charged KSh 151,600 a term for Grade 7 in 2026, almost the same as Runda’s 2027 fee.
