Makini School Fees 2027: Every Campus Compared, Playgroup to Grade 10

CBC Guides teamUpdated 26 Oct 20265 min read

Last reviewed: 26 October 2026

Search for “Makini school fees” and you will find a dozen separate fee sheets, because the Makini School group prices every campus and every stage on its own document. A Grade 10 place costs one thing in Runda and less than half of that in Kisumu. A Playgroup place on Ngong Road costs more than double the same class at Migosi. This guide puts all of Makini’s 2027 CBE fee sheets side by side, so you can see at a glance which campus fits your budget before you read the detailed page for one school.

Every tuition figure comes from the 2027 fee structures Makini posted on its official fees page in October 2026, which we have already broken down school by school. All amounts are in Kenya shillings per term, and Makini charges the same amount in each of the three terms. This page is accurate as of 26 October 2026.

Grade 10 at Makini: Runda vs Kisumu

Most parents searching this month want one number: what senior school costs. Makini runs two CBE senior schools.

Senior schoolGrade 10 per termGrade 11 per termGrade 10 year
Makini Senior and High School Runda152,258152,258456,775
Makini Senior School Kisumu City70,97874,527212,934

The Kisumu Grade 10 fee is about 47% of the Runda fee, even though both sheets list the same inclusions: lunch, tea break, computer, games and swimming, and chess. Neither sheet lists a boarding charge, so treat both as day fees. Runda is also the only campus teaching the last 8-4-4 class, and its Senior and High School Runda fee structure 2027 charges Form 4 exactly the same KSh 152,258 a term as Grade 10 and Grade 11.

For context, a public boarding senior school may charge parents at most KSh 53,554 a year under Gazette Notice No. 1449 of 2026 on senior school fees, and a public day school charges no tuition. A year of Grade 10 at Makini Kisumu costs roughly four times that boarding ceiling; Runda costs more than eight times it.

Junior School (Grades 7 to 9)

CampusGrade 7Grade 8Grade 9
Runda151,554151,554151,554
Ngong Road144,681151,684151,684
Kisumu City64,52564,52564,525

Two details are easy to miss. Ngong Road is cheaper than Runda only in Grade 7; in Grades 8 and 9 it is actually KSh 130 a term dearer. And the jump from junior to senior school is tiny at Runda (KSh 704 a term from Grade 9 to Grade 10), but larger in Kisumu (KSh 6,453 a term). A family that can afford Runda’s junior school can, at 2027 prices, almost certainly afford its senior school.

Primary (Grades 1 to 6)

Statehouse Junior Academy101,818104,974113,226113,833
Kisumu Citysee Migosi48,39457,52257,522

Runda is Makini’s dearest CBE primary and Statehouse Junior Academy, on State House Avenue, the cheapest of the three Nairobi options. The Kisumu City primary sheet starts at Grade 2. Grade 1 in Kisumu appears on the Makini School Migosi sheet at KSh 47,268 a term, so confirm with admissions where a Grade 1 child will be taught.

Migosi (Kisumu)41,60141,60145,320

Runda also lists a Day Care class at KSh 63,812 a term, the only Makini campus we found with one. Ngong Road is the dearest preschool, charging Playgroup the full PP1 fee.

Joining Charges Differ by Campus

The one-off charges are not the same everywhere, and they change the first-term bill:

  • Runda campus (preschool to senior): application KSh 2,280, a non-refundable admission fee of KSh 11,395 and a refundable deposit of KSh 11,395, a total of KSh 25,070. The PTA fund is KSh 500 a term.
  • Ngong Road, Statehouse, Kisumu City and Migosi: application KSh 2,040, registration KSh 2,720 and a refundable deposit of KSh 13,500, a total of KSh 18,260. The PTA fund is KSh 1,000 a term.
  • Kisumu City and Migosi only add an activity fee of KSh 1,250 a term.
  • Every campus charges group insurance of KSh 600 a term and KSh 500 a year for the diary.

Discounts are the same group-wide: 5% off tuition for paying the whole year in advance (worth about KSh 22,840 on a Grade 10 year at Runda), and a 5% sibling discount that starts only with the fourth child.

Transport Rates for 2027 Are Now Out

When we first wrote up each campus, Makini had only 2026 transport sheets online. It has since posted 2027 sheets, and every zone we checked has gone up by 6%. Two-way transport now costs, per term:

  • Runda: KSh 21,370 (Zone 1: Runda, Thindigua, Muthaiga) to KSh 67,840 (Zone 5: Membley, Dagoretti, Ruiru, Kamakis), according to the Runda campus termly transport charges 2027.
  • Ngong Road and State House Avenue: KSh 27,821 to KSh 49,874 across seven zones. Note that Ngong Road has renumbered its zones: Zone 1 is now the nearest (Riara Road, Woodley, Junction Mall), where in 2026 it was the farthest.
  • Kisumu: KSh 14,811 to KSh 32,988, still only a little more than one way in most zones.

Transport is only provided after Makini’s transport office approves an application form. Our individual campus pages still show the 2026 rates, so add about 6% to any transport figure you read there.

What a Whole Makini Education Costs at 2027 Prices

Adding up tuition from Playgroup through Grade 10, at 2027 prices and ignoring future increases, gives a sense of scale. At Runda the 13 years come to about KSh 4.83 million in tuition. On the Kisumu route (Migosi for Playgroup to Grade 1, then Kisumu City), the same 13 years come to about KSh 2.13 million, or 44% of the Runda figure. This is our arithmetic. Real costs will be higher, because Makini, like every private school, reviews fees each year, and transport, uniform and books are extra.

How to Use This Comparison

Start with the stage your child is entering, pick the campus you can reach, then open that school’s own page for the payment details, account numbers and a worked first-year bill. If your child is in Grade 9 now and you are weighing a private day place against a public boarding school, use the KJSEA grade calculator and the senior school finder to see the public options first, and read our guide to choosing a senior school pathway. Other groups are compared on the fees hub, including the Riara schools and private CBC school fees in general.
