Grade 5 sits in the middle of upper primary, one year before KPSEA, and Term 3 brings the end-of-year exams that decide how confident a child feels going into the next grade.

About these papers

Searches for “grade 5 exams 2026 term 3” rise every October because parents want to see what the papers look like and to give their child a fair practice run at home. This page collects our original Grade 5 end-of-term practice exams. Your child sits each one online, gets it marked instantly, and then reviews every question with a worked answer. There are no downloads to print and no marking schemes to chase on WhatsApp.

Who Sets Grade 5 Exams?

KNEC does not set a national exam in Grade 5. End-of-term exams are set by schools, zones or commercial publishers, so formats differ from school to school. KNEC does run school-based assessments in upper primary, and those scores count towards the final KPSEA result at the end of Grade 6, so steady work now matters. Our exams use a simple multiple-choice layout close to the KPSEA style, with questions written from the KICD curriculum designs for Grade 5. That way your child practises the content and also gets used to the style of the national assessment they will meet in Grade 6.

How To Use These Exams

Sit each exam once in timed mode about a week before the school exams. Afterwards, sit beside your child and go through the worked answers for every question they missed. Ask them to explain the right answer back to you in their own words. Write the topics they missed in a notebook and practise those for a few days, for example with ten questions a day in the Grade 5 CBC Challenge. Then sit the exam again. A higher score the second time is good, but the real test is whether your child can explain why each answer is right.

Online, Timed And Marked For You

Every exam here is sat in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Choose an answer for each question and press “Mark my paper”. Your child sees the score straight away, then every question with the correct answer and a worked explanation. Members can switch on timed mode, which counts down from the exam length and submits automatically, just like a real exam room. The first five questions of every paper are free, so you can judge the quality before you join. Membership is free for 7 days, then KES 500 a month.

Keep It Calm

Children aged nine to eleven work best in short sessions. One exam in an evening is plenty. Praise effort and careful checking more than the score, and never use a practice paper as a punishment.
