Grade 5 CBC Challenge: Free Maths, English and Science Quiz

Tap an answer. It's marked on the spot, with the working. Free, no sign-up.

About the Grade 5 CBC Challenge

In Grade 5 the work steps up: decimals, longer multiplication and whole-sentence English. Ten questions, each marked straight away with the working.

What the Grade 5 questions cover

Mathematics: whole numbers, rounding, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, length, area, money, time, factors and angles.

Science & Technology: parts of a flower, human breathing system, human body, classification of plants, animals, water pollution, mixtures, heat, floating and sinking and sound energy.

English: tenses, nouns, possessives, conjunctions, adjectives, adverbs, comparison, homophones, opposites, question tags and punctuation.

Each go draws ten questions at random from the Grade 5 bank, so going again gives a different mix. Practice material written for the CBC curriculum. Spot an error? Tell us.

Getting the most out of it

A low first score is useful information, not a failure. Spend a few evenings on one topic from the score card, then come back for a fresh set.

Score card, levels and privacy

The level on the score card (Exceeding, Meeting, Approaching or Below Expectation) is indicative, worked out from the KJSEA mark ranges reported in the press. Ten questions cannot replace classroom assessment. How CBC grading works explains the levels.

Want to see how your child compares? Check the top CBC students in Kenya this week. A grade appears there once enough children have played it. A parent joins with a nickname, a county and their consent. We never ask for surnames, schools or phone numbers.

Other grades: Grade 4, Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9.
