Sit an original KJSEA Grade 9 Integrated Science practice paper online, modelled on the theory paper 905/1: 30 multiple-choice questions and a 40-mark structured section, in the real 1 hour 40 minutes.

About this paper

The first five questions are free, with worked answers. Learners unlock the whole paper, the timer and the full marking review.

About Practice Paper 2

Paper 2 follows the same 905/1 layout with new questions. It goes deeper on isotopes and ions, permanent hardness, leaf structure and mineral deficiency, villi and bile, seed dispersal, decomposers, the principal focus of a concave mirror, ammeters and earthing, and it adds calculations on frequency, Ohm’s law, the cost of electricity, pressure under a heel and echoes.

How Our Online Version Works

Section A is exactly like the real paper: 30 questions with four options, one mark each. In the real Section B, learners write answers and earn marks for each correct point, formula, substitution and unit. Online, we can only mark answers we can check exactly, so our Section B uses eight calculation and short-answer items worth 5 marks each, which you answer by typing a number. After marking, every item shows the full working the way a KNEC examiner would expect to see it. Practise writing that working on paper as you go.

What The Paper Covers

  • Scientific investigation: apparatus, fair tests and variables.
  • Mixtures, elements and compounds: structure of the atom (protons, neutrons, electrons, electron arrangement), metals and alloys, rusting, hard and soft water, acids, bases and indicators.
  • Living things and their environment: nutrition in plants (photosynthesis) and animals (teeth, digestion, enzymes), reproduction in flowering plants, food chains and relationships such as parasitism.
  • Force and energy: curved mirrors, waves (v = fλ), electrical circuits, resistance and energy in kilowatt-hours, pressure and heat transfer.
  • Health: water-borne diseases and the effects of drugs.

The Formulas To Know Cold

Calculation questions are the easiest marks in Section B if the formula is memorised and units are written: density = mass ÷ volume; wave speed = frequency × wavelength; resistance = voltage ÷ current; energy (kWh) = power (kW) × time (h); pressure = force ÷ area; radius of curvature = 2 × focal length; and mass number = protons + neutrons. Write the formula first, substitute, then calculate. If the arithmetic goes wrong, the first two steps still earn marks.

Common Mistakes

  • Confusing atomic number (protons) with mass number (protons + neutrons).
  • Saying plants “breathe in” carbon dioxide for respiration. Plants take in carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and respire all the time.
  • Forgetting units, or mixing watts and kilowatts in electricity bills.
  • Mixing up convex mirrors (wider view, for vehicles) and concave mirrors (magnify, for dentists and torches).
  • Answering “explain” questions with a fact and no reason.

Revising For 905/2

The practical skills paper is written, but it assumes you have handled apparatus. Revise how to read a measuring cylinder at the bottom of the meniscus, how to draw and label a results table with units, how to plot a line graph, and the food tests (iodine for starch, Benedict’s for reducing sugars). Questions often describe an experiment and ask what was observed, what it shows, or how to make it a fair test.
