Paper structures are taken from the KNEC 2026 KJSEA timetable and published paper specifications. Always check the official timetable your school gives you, because KNEC’s printed paper is final.
Grade 9 is the year of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).
About these papers
The 2026 written papers run from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, after the projects in Creative Arts and Sports, Pre-Technical Studies and Agriculture were done and scored at school between May and August. KJSEA results count towards senior school placement and pathway choice, so these papers matter more than any end-term exam your child has sat before.
How To Use Grade 9 Revision Papers Well
Most Grade 9 learners lose marks in three predictable places. The first is time: Mathematics gives two hours for 100 marks, which leaves about a minute per multiple-choice mark and roughly ninety seconds per structured mark. Learners who have only ever done untimed homework often leave the last two or three structured questions blank. Sit at least two full papers in timed mode before the exam.
The second is working. In the structured sections of Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, KNEC awards method marks. A learner who writes the formula, substitutes the numbers and makes a small arithmetic slip can still score most of the marks; one who writes only a wrong answer scores nothing. Our online papers auto-mark the final answer, so after each paper compare your child’s written working line by line with the worked solution.
The third is the language of the question. Words like “state”, “explain”, “calculate” and “give a reason” ask for different things. A question that says “explain” expects a reason, not just a fact. Reading the worked answers is the quickest way to learn what each command word wants.
Plan For The Final Weeks
Week one: one full paper a day, rotating Mathematics, Integrated Science and English, marked the same day. Week two: redo the questions your child got wrong, then practise those topics with the Grade 9 CBC Challenge, which gives instant feedback on short sets. Keep the night before each paper light, and remember the KJSEA rehearsal day on Friday 23 October.
For what each subject covers, see the Grade 9 guide. For results, placement and pathways, read the KJSEA parent hub and our KJSEA past papers guide, which explains what official papers exist and where to find them.
