Exam-Week Day 3 of 7: Grade 9 Integrated Science Mini-Paper
Original CBC Guide questions in the KNEC format, not an official KNEC paper. Aligned to the KICD curriculum designs and checked by the CBC Guides team. Spot an error? Tell us. How we check every question.
Exam-week Day 3 of 7 (Wednesday 21 October 2026). Ten Grade 9 Integrated Science questions in about 15 minutes, covering atoms, alloys, hard water, photosynthesis, nutrition, pollination, interdependence, curved mirrors and waves.
About this paper
Built for KJSEA pitch. We published it a day early so you can plan your evening. It is best done on Wednesday, after the Day 2 English set.

What This Mini-Paper Covers
The electron arrangement of potassium, why aircraft use duralumin, what a boiling test tells you about hard water, why a plant is destarched before an experiment, homodont teeth in a crocodile, cross-pollination by a bee, assimilation of glucose, a predator and its prey, the image formed by a concave mirror when the object is beyond C, and a wave-speed calculation from a dam. Every item sits in a sub-strand of the Grade 9 Integrated Science design.
Five Facts To Have Ready
- Energy levels for the first 20 elements fill 2, 8, 8, then the rest: potassium is 2.8.8.1, calcium 2.8.8.2.
- Boiling removes temporary hardness only. If water still forms scum after boiling, it has permanent hardness.
- Destarching (keeping a plant in the dark for about two days) makes sure any starch found later was made during the experiment.
- Concave mirror, object beyond C: the image is real, inverted, diminished and between C and F.
- Wave speed = frequency × wavelength. The distance between two neighbouring crests is one wavelength.
Working Under Time Pressure
Do the calculation and the electron arrangement first, because they have one exact answer and take under a minute each. For the reasoning items, cross out the two choices you can rule out, then decide between the last two. In KJSEA practical-style questions, look for the variable: in the hard-water item it is boiling; in the destarching item it is darkness. Name the variable and the answer usually follows.
After You Finish
Turn each wrong answer into a flash card: the question on one side and the reason, not just the letter, on the other. Go through the cards on Thursday morning. Then sit one section of a full Grade 9 Integrated Science paper under the timer. KJSEA timetable details are on KJSEA past papers.
A Grade 6 learner at home can use the Day 3 Grade 6 Integrated Science mini-paper instead.
