Thursday 29 October 2026 is the busiest day of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA). Grade 9 candidates sit three papers, running from 8.30 in the morning to 3.40 in the afternoon. Energy, food and focus matter as much as revision on a day like this. Here is what the KNEC timetable says and how to get through it well.

The Three Papers

From the KNEC 2026 KJSEA Timetable and Instructions:

  • 905/1 Integrated Science: 8.30 to 10.10 am (1 hour 40 minutes).
  • 907 Social Studies: 11.10 am to 12.40 pm (1 hour 30 minutes).
  • 911/2 Creative Arts and Sports: 2.00 to 3.40 pm (1 hour 40 minutes).

There is a morning break after the first paper and a lunch break before the afternoon paper. Integrated Science has a second, shorter paper (905/2) on Friday afternoon. Braille candidates get longer: 2 hours 10 minutes for Integrated Science and Creative Arts and Sports, and 2 hours for Social Studies. See the full KJSEA timetable.

Integrated Science Paper 1

Integrated Science combines biology, chemistry and physics ideas taught in junior school. Questions often describe an experiment or everyday situation and ask the learner to explain or predict. Good habits:

  • Read diagrams carefully, including labels and units.
  • When asked to “explain”, give a reason, not just a fact.
  • Use correct scientific words, but in plain sentences.

Social Studies

Social Studies covers people, places, citizenship and the environment in Kenya and beyond. Map questions reward care with the key, compass directions and scale. For questions about government and citizenship, specific examples from Kenya earn more than general statements.

Creative Arts and Sports

The afternoon written paper is only part of this learning area. The Creative Arts and Sports project (911/1) ran in school for three months, from May to July 2026, and already counts. The written paper is the last one of the day, when concentration dips, so a proper lunch and some water make a real difference.

Pacing a Three-Paper Day

  1. Breakfast that lasts. Something filling, not only sugary tea.
  2. Use breaks to rest, not to re-revise. Discussing answers in the break tends to raise worry.
  3. Carry water if the school allows it.
  4. Reset before each paper. Each paper is a fresh start; a hard morning does not decide the afternoon.

Rules Still Apply

Candidates must be seated 15 minutes before each paper. Phones are banned all week. An irregularity in one paper cancels the result for the whole subject, so for Integrated Science a problem on Thursday would also affect Friday’s paper 2.

On Thursday Evening

Friday is the last day, with three more papers. Thursday evening is for a light look at Pre-Technical Studies and religious education notes, then rest. Our KJSEA revision guide for parents has more on the final days.

If Something Goes Wrong

If your child feels unwell on the day, they should tell the invigilator at once rather than struggle in silence. Schools and supervisors follow KNEC procedures for candidates who fall sick during the assessment.

Practice Resources

Learners can try the first five questions of every Integrated Science and Social Studies paper free on our revision papers page, or test themselves with the free CBC Challenge. Full papers with worked answers are part of the Monthly Pass, KSh 500 via M-Pesa.

Ten-minute check: try the free Grade 9 CBC Challenge. It has 10 questions, each marked on the spot with the working, and it shows which topics to practise next.
