Free lesson for children aged about 8–14. 25 minutes with a parent.
Needs vs wants
A need is something we must have to live well (food, school uniform, rent). A want is nice to have (sweets, a new game).
Activity 1: sort the list
Write 10 things the family bought this month. Your child marks each N (need) or W (want). Talk about any you disagree on.
Activity 2: the 3-jar plan
Label three jars or envelopes: Spend, Save, Share. Next time your child gets pocket money, split it, e.g. half spend, a third save, the rest share. Write a savings goal on the Save jar with its price.
Talk about it
- How many weeks until the goal?
- What would you give up to reach it sooner?
