Sarufi: The Topics That Cost Marks
Ngeli na upatanisho wa kisarufi
Grade 8 covers ngeli ya I-ZI, I-I, U-U and U-YA. Practise singular and plural in full sentences:
- I-ZI: Nyumba imejengwa → Nyumba zimejengwa.
- U-YA: Ugonjwa umeenea → Magonjwa yameenea.
- U-U: Unga umemwagika (no plural change).
- I-I: Sukari imeisha (no plural change).
Nyakati, hali na ukanushaji
- Hali ya mazoea: Yeye husoma kila jioni → ukanushaji: Yeye hasomi kila jioni.
- Hali timilifu: Amesoma → Hajasoma.
- Wakati uliopita hali timilifu: Alikuwa amesoma. Wakati ujao hali timilifu: Atakuwa amesoma.
Kauli za vitenzi
- Kutendeka: andika → andikika (Barua hii inaandikika).
- Kutendewa: andikiwa (Mama aliandikiwa barua).
- Kutendatenda: ruka → rukaruka (Mtoto alirukaruka).
Udogo wa nomino na usemi wa taarifa
Udogo: mtoto → kitoto, nyumba → kijumba. For usemi wa taarifa, change the pronoun and the time words: “Nitakuja kesho,” Juma alisema → Juma alisema kwamba angekuja siku iliyofuata. Learners often forget to change kesho and leo.
Our Grade 9 Kiswahili ufahamu na sarufi revision builds on these topics.
Tamthilia: the Grade 8 Literature Text
The design names tamthilia (a play) as the genre studied in Grade 8, to prepare learners for literature in the Social Sciences pathway. Learners are not expected to do deep literary criticism, and the design notes that these readers are not “setbooks”. Revise the play with five headings: maudhui na dhamira, mandhari, ploti, wahusika and mbinu za lugha. For each, write one short example from the text your class is reading.
Kuandika: Insha and Barua That Score
- Insha za kubuni: masimulizi, maelezo and insha ya mdokezo (continuing a given opening or ending).
- Insha za maelekezo: clear steps in order, using words like kwanza, kisha, hatimaye.
- Barua: a friendly thank-you letter and a letter asking for help, each with the correct format.
- Hotuba na baruapepe ya kiofisi: formal greeting, purpose, body and a polite close.
- Viakifishi: alama ya hisi (!), ritifaa (‘), mtajo and mshazari (/).
Our Kiswahili insha tips show model openings, and methali, nahau na misemo add colour that examiners reward.
