How to Pace the 2 Hours 30 Minutes
- Section A: 25 minutes, roughly one minute per mark.
- Section B: 75 minutes, about 25 minutes per essay.
- Section C: 45 minutes, about 22 minutes per essay.
- Keep the last five minutes to number your answers correctly in the margin, which KNEC instructions require.
In essays, write one point per paragraph and start it with the key word so the examiner can see it. “State” and “identify” need short points; “explain” and “describe” need a sentence of reason or detail for each point.

Teachers’ predictions for Paper 1 usually lean on topics that rotate between years: the constitution and human rights, devolution, the Kenyan economy since independence, African nationalism and the Mau Mau, and social, economic and political organisation of pre-colonial communities. Treat any prediction as a revision checklist, not a forecast of the real paper.
