Public Speaking Lesson 1: The one-minute talk

Free lesson for Grades 4–9. 20 minutes with a parent.

The 3-part talk

1. Hook: a question or surprising sentence.
2. Three points: say each one in one sentence.
3. Close: tell the listener what to remember.

Activity

Pick a topic: “My favourite food”, “Why we need trees”, “My hero”. Plan it on a small card with only 5 keywords. Stand up and speak for one minute while the parent times you.

Parent feedback (kind and specific)

Name one thing that was good (eye contact, loud voice, clear hook) and one thing to try next time. Then do it again, recording on the phone, and watch together.
