Updated 1 November 2026. Looking for KCSE CRE Paper 2 questions and answers you can actually learn from? This page gives you original practice questions in the KCSE CRE Paper 2 (313/2) format, each followed by the points an examiner would expect, so you can see why an answer earns marks and not just copy it. CRE Paper 2 covers the New Testament part of the syllabus (prophecies about the Messiah, the Gospel of Luke, the early Church and the gifts of the Holy Spirit) together with contemporary Christian living, which most teachers call Christian ethics.

Everything below is written by CBC Guides in the KCSE style. It is not a KNEC paper and not a KNEC marking scheme; the answers are worked answers checked by a teacher.

How KCSE CRE Paper 2 (313/2) Is Set Out

The paper has six essay questions. You answer any five, and each question carries 20 marks, so the paper is out of 100. Most questions are split into parts (a), (b) and (c): a recall part (“describe”, “outline”), an explanation part (“explain”, “give reasons”) and an application part that asks how Christians today live out the teaching. On the KNEC 2026 KCSE Examination Timetable, Instructions and Guidelines, CRE 313/2 sits on Wednesday 11 November 2026 from 8.00 to 10.30 am, so you have 2 hours 30 minutes, which works out at about 28 minutes per question with ten minutes left to choose questions and check.

CRE is one of the most widely taken optional subjects, so the competition for top grades is real: the 2025 KCSE had 993,226 candidates, of whom 1,932 scored a mean grade of A, as reported by the Kenya News Agency in CS Ogamba releases KCSE 2025 results. A strong CRE grade can lift your best-seven total, so it is worth practising properly.

In most years the first three or four questions come from the Bible (Luke, Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the early Church) and the last two from Christian ethics: human sexuality, marriage and family, work, leisure, law and order, wealth and poverty, and science and the environment. Always follow the instructions on your own paper.

KCSE CRE Paper 2 Questions and Answers: Original Practice Set

Question 1: The Messiah in the Old Testament

(a) Outline Isaiah’s prophecy about the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53). (7 marks) (b) Give six ways in which Jesus fulfilled this prophecy. (6 marks) (c) State seven lessons Christians learn from the suffering of Jesus. (7 marks)

Worked answer (a): one mark per correct point, up to seven: he would be despised and rejected; a man of sorrows familiar with suffering; he would carry our sins and sicknesses; he would be wounded for our transgressions; he would be oppressed but silent, like a lamb led to slaughter; he would be cut off from the land of the living without justice; he would be buried with the rich (in a rich man’s grave); through his suffering many would be made righteous.

Worked answer (b): Jesus was rejected by the Jewish leaders; he kept silent before Pilate and Herod; he was whipped and mocked; he was crucified between two criminals; he was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, a rich man; he prayed for those who crucified him; his death brought forgiveness of sin. Marking note: a point must link the event to Jesus, not just repeat the prophecy.

Worked answer (c): suffering can be part of God’s plan; Christians should endure persecution patiently; they should forgive those who wrong them; they should be ready to suffer for the truth; they should trust God in hard times; obedience to God may be costly; suffering for others is an act of love.

Question 2: The Gospel of Luke

(a) Describe the healing of the centurion’s servant (Luke 7:1-10). (6 marks) (b) What does the story teach about the faith of a Gentile? (6 marks) (c) Give eight ways the church in Kenya cares for the sick today. (8 marks)

Worked answer (a): a Roman centurion in Capernaum had a servant who was sick and about to die; he sent Jewish elders to ask Jesus to come; the elders said he deserved help because he loved the nation and built their synagogue; as Jesus approached, the centurion sent friends to say he was not worthy to have Jesus under his roof; he asked Jesus only to say the word; Jesus marvelled and said he had not found such faith even in Israel; the messengers returned and found the servant well.

Worked answer (b): salvation is open to Gentiles; humility goes with true faith; Jesus has authority over sickness even at a distance; faith is shown through care for others (the centurion cared for a servant); Gentiles could have greater faith than Israel; Jesus rewards faith regardless of status.

Worked answer (c): mission hospitals and dispensaries (for example, Tenwek or Kijabe mission hospitals); visiting and praying for the sick; paying hospital bills through harambees; training doctors and nurses; offering guidance and counselling; providing home-based care for people living with HIV; anointing and laying on of hands; donating food and medicine; running hospices; advocating for affordable health care.

Question 3: The Early Church and the Holy Spirit

(a) Describe the events of the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-41). (8 marks) (b) Explain six ways the Holy Spirit helps Christians today. (6 marks) (c) Give six reasons why some Christians do not show the fruit of the Spirit. (6 marks)

Worked answer (a): the disciples were gathered in one place; a sound like a violent wind filled the house; tongues of fire rested on each of them; they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in other languages; Jews from many nations heard them in their own languages; some mocked them, saying they were drunk; Peter stood up and preached that Jesus, crucified, had been raised and made Lord and Christ; the people asked what to do; Peter told them to repent and be baptised; about three thousand were baptised that day.

Worked answer (b): gives power to witness; guides believers into truth; comforts them in trouble; convicts people of sin; gives gifts for the service of the church; helps them pray; unites believers; produces the fruit of the Spirit such as love, patience and self-control.

Worked answer (c): lack of prayer and Bible study; pride; love of money and materialism; peer pressure; poor role models in church; unconfessed sin; weak commitment; false teaching.

Question 4: Christian Ethics and Work

(a) Outline the Christian teaching on work. (7 marks) (b) Explain six reasons why some Kenyans are unemployed. (6 marks) (c) State seven ways the church helps the unemployed. (7 marks)

Worked answer (a): work was instituted by God, who worked in creation; Adam was put in the garden to tend it; work is a way of serving God and others; Jesus worked as a carpenter; Paul worked as a tent-maker and taught that whoever does not work should not eat; workers should be paid fairly and on time; employers should not oppress workers; rest is part of God’s plan (the Sabbath).

Worked answer (b): few jobs compared with the number of school leavers; lack of skills or training; corruption and nepotism in hiring; laziness or negative attitudes to some jobs; poor economic growth; lack of capital to start businesses; rural-urban migration; retrenchment.

Worked answer (c): runs vocational and technical training centres; offers small loans and SACCOs; teaches entrepreneurship; employs people in church projects; gives guidance and counselling; provides food and shelter to the needy; speaks out against corruption in hiring.

Turning These Answers Into Marks

  • Count your points. A 7-mark part needs seven separate, correct points. A long paragraph that repeats one idea earns one mark.
  • Use Bible detail. In Luke questions, name the people, the place and what Jesus said. Vague retelling loses marks.
  • Answer the “today” part with Kenya. Application parts reward specific, realistic actions by Christians or the church in Kenya.
  • Time it. Twenty-eight minutes per question. If you run over on one, cut your next question to bullet-style sentences rather than leave a question unanswered.

What Rival Past-Paper Pages Leave Out

Most pages that rank for this search offer a PDF of an old paper and a scheme with no explanation. That is fine for a mock, but it does not tell you why a point scores or how long to spend. Here every answer shows how the marks split, and you can test yourself under time in the KCSE CRE Paper 2 challenge, which marks you instantly. For topic notes, read the KCSE CRE Paper 2 revision guide, and for Paper 1 practice see the KCSE CRE practice papers page. Quick drills are in the KCSE CRE quiz, and every subject is listed on the KCSE quiz index and the paper-by-paper challenges.
