Updated October 2026. Grade 7, 8 and 9 learners in junior school report on the general Term 1 opening day, which in 2026 was Monday 5 January. The 2027 Term 1 date has not been announced, so an early-January 2027 opening is expected. Junior school stays in the learner’s current school in most cases, so most Grade 7 joiners do not need an admission letter; the school confirms the place and gives a uniform and book list.

Moving from Grade 6 to Grade 7
After KPSEA, learners move to junior school (Grades 7 to 9), usually at the same primary school. If you want a different junior school, ask the new school about vacancies and transfer on the education management system. What to buy for Grade 7
- Uniform per the school’s list (see uniform costs)
- Exercise books and a mathematical set, as on the school list
- Course books listed by the school; public schools receive textbook support, so ask before buying
What to revise before school opens
Most Grade 7 teachers start with fractions, decimals, integers, reading comprehension and Integrated Science basics. A short daily routine in the holiday helps.
