Your TSC payslip is available online on T-Pay, the Teachers Service Commission’s payroll portal at tpay.tsc.go.ke. You log in with your TSC number or ID number, a password and a simple sum, then open “Latest Payslip” or pick any month under “View Payslips” and save it as a PDF. This guide walks through each step, what to do if you are locked out, and how to read every line of the payslip so you can spot errors and unauthorised deductions.

How to Download Your TSC Payslip on T-Pay
- Open the official TSC T-Pay portal. Check that the address ends in tsc.go.ke before typing anything.
- Enter your username: your TSC number (some guides say your national ID number also works).
- Enter your password.
- Answer the “Security Stamp”, a small arithmetic question shown on the login page, then click Login.
- On the dashboard, click Latest Payslip for this month’s payslip.
- For older months, open the menu, choose View Payslips, then select the year and month.
- Click Print and choose “Save as PDF” (or press Ctrl+P on a computer). On a phone, use the browser’s share or print option to save a PDF.
The T-Pay menu also includes View P9(s), Send Payslip(s), Transactions and My Documents.
First-Time Access and Forgotten Passwords
New teachers: T-Pay accounts are not created through an open online sign-up. Guides for teachers say new employees are registered at their TSC county office, so take your national ID and TSC number there if you cannot log in.
Forgotten password: click “Forgot Your Password?” under the login form, enter your TSC number and follow the steps. Teachers report that a one-time code goes to the phone number registered with TSC. If it never arrives, your number on record is probably out of date: contact your county office to update it.
Getting Your P9 for KRA Returns
Your P9 shows the year’s pay and tax and is needed for your KRA iTax return by 30 June. Open “Latest P9” on the dashboard, or “View P9(s)” in the menu, and pick the year. Save it as a PDF alongside your December payslip.

Earnings
- Basic salary: set by your job grade and step on the salary scale.
- House allowance: varies by grade and duty station.
- Commuter allowance: a fixed monthly amount by grade.
- Hardship allowance: only for designated hardship areas.
- Other allowances such as responsibility or special school allowance where they apply.
Statutory deductions (2026)
| Deduction | How it is worked out |
|---|---|
| PAYE | Income tax on taxable pay using KRA bands, after personal relief |
| NSSF | 6% of pensionable pay up to an upper limit. From February 2026 the limit is KSh 108,000, so the maximum employee contribution is KSh 6,480 |
| SHIF | 2.75% of gross pay for the Social Health Insurance Fund |
| Housing Levy | 1.5% of gross pay (Affordable Housing Levy) |
The NSSF figures are from the Year 4 rates summarised in KPMG’s tax alert on 2026 NSSF rates. Your payslip may also show a pension contribution if you are in the contributory scheme.
Voluntary and third-party deductions
Union dues (KNUT or KUPPET), SACCO loans and savings, bank loans, insurance premiums and welfare contributions all appear as separate lines, usually with a balance or the number of months left. Under the Employment Act, total deductions should not exceed two-thirds of your wages, so you keep at least one-third. Lenders check this “one-third rule” before approving loans, which is why they ask for your latest TSC payslip.
Check Your Payslip Every Month
- Compare net pay with last month. Any change should have a reason: a promotion, an increment, a new loan or a loan ending.
- Look for deductions you do not recognise. Open Transactions on T-Pay to see running third-party deductions and approve or query pending ones.
- Never share your T-Pay password. Teachers have lost money to deductions they did not authorise. Log out on shared phones and cyber café computers.
- Keep PDFs of at least the last six months. Banks, SACCOs and landlords often ask for three.
If something is wrong, raise it with your head of institution and your TSC county office, with the payslip and any loan documents.
