Kajiado County is huge, about 21,000 square kilometres reaching south to the Tanzanian border, but most of its 1.1 million people live in a narrow strip next to Nairobi. Ongata Rongai is the county’s largest town, with about 170,000 people, and Kitengela, Ngong and Kiserian are close behind in growth. Kajiado town, the county capital, sits further south on the Namanga road. If you are a parent in Rongai or Kitengela, your child’s exam week has more in common with Nairobi than with the rest of the county, and this guide is written mostly with you in mind.
KPSEA (Grade 6) and KJSEA (Grade 9) run from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026, at each learner’s own registered school.
Rongai: Magadi Road Mornings
Rongai sits about 17 kilometres south of the CBD, east of the Ngong Hills, and nearly all traffic into the city funnels up Magadi Road towards Langata. Many Rongai children go to school locally, in Kware, Nkoroi, Tuala, Rimpa and the surrounding neighbourhoods, while others travel into Langata or Karen. If yours is one of the travellers, the school bus may leave in the dark. Ask now whether exam-week pick-up times change, and make sure your child has eaten before they get on.
Kitengela: The Namanga Road Commute
Kitengela is about 34 kilometres from Nairobi, and its population has grown many times over in two decades as former ranch land was subdivided. Most Kitengela learners now attend school locally, which helps, but the Namanga road between Kitengela and Athi River can stall at peak hours. Walking learners should leave early enough not to rush; it is hot and dusty by mid-morning. Keep the countdown visible with our exam countdown.
Revising In A New Estate
Both towns are full of new apartment blocks and maisonette estates, often with building work next door during the day. Evening is the quiet window. Pick one topic a night from What to revise now, then do a 15-minute exam-week mini-paper and read every worked answer. The first five questions on each are free and load on modest data.
Learners Further South
For families around Kajiado town, Isinya, Namanga and Loitokitok, distances to school can be long and some learners board. If your child is a boarder, a short phone call on Sunday 25 October to settle nerves is worth more than a last lecture on revision.
Senior School After KJSEA
Junior school now runs inside primary schools, so most Grade 9 learners sit KJSEA where they did Grade 6. In January 2027 they move to Grade 10, placed according to the pathway they choose: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Science. Rongai and Kitengela families often choose between Nairobi day schools, local schools and boarding further away. Agree the pathway first using our pathways guide, then read results with the KJSEA grade calculator. The pathway report sets out options in writing.
What It Costs
Free tools aside, the KJSEA Grade 9 revision book is KSh 250, the KPSEA Grade 6 revision book KSh 200, the Monthly Pass KSh 500, and December holiday packs KSh 120 per grade.
