CBC Revision In Ruiru: KJSEA And KPSEA 2026 Guide For Parents

Ruiru grew from sisal and coffee estates into one of Kenya’s biggest urban centres. The 2019 census ranked it the fourth largest in the country, ahead of Eldoret, and it sits about 20 kilometres north-east of Nairobi’s CBD along the Thika Superhighway and the Eastern Bypass. Kamakis, Membley, Tatu City, Kimbo, Mwihoko, Githurai 45 and the old town are all Ruiru, and many of them are full of young families who moved out of Nairobi for more space. That makes Ruiru one of the largest pools of Grade 6 and Grade 9 learners in Kiambu County.

KPSEA and KJSEA run from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026, and learners sit them at their own registered school.

Superhighway Or Bypass: Plan The Morning

If your child attends a school inside Ruiru, journeys are usually manageable, though the Kamakis and Eastern Bypass junctions and the Githurai stretch can be slow. If they go to school in Nairobi, the Superhighway approach to Roysambu or the bypass towards Ruai can turn a 30-minute trip into an hour. Leave earlier all week, not just on Monday. School vans should confirm exam-week times by Saturday. The exam countdown keeps the date in front of everyone.

When Both Parents Commute

A common Ruiru pattern: parents leave at 6 am, return after 7 pm, and children manage homework alone or with a house help. That can still work in exam week if the task is clear and checkable. Write it on paper: “Monday: Fractions. Do mini-paper. Send me your score.” Use What to revise now to choose the topics and our 15-minute exam-week mini-papers for the practice. When you get home, ask for one question they got wrong and have them explain it. Five minutes of that is real help.

New Estates, Noisy Days

Construction is constant in parts of Ruiru. If daytime noise makes Saturday revision hard, move the timed paper to early morning, before work starts on site, and keep afternoons for lighter review.

Grade 10: Thinking Beyond Ruiru

Junior school now runs in primary schools, so most learners here sit KJSEA in the same place as their Grade 6 assessment. In January 2027 they move to senior school, placed by pathway: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Science. Ruiru sits between Nairobi and the rest of Kiambu, and families often compare day schools nearby with boarding options further out. Before deciding, read our pathways guide, use the KJSEA grade calculator, and look at the pathway report if you want the options written down.

For full sets of papers: the KJSEA Grade 9 revision book, KSh 250; the KPSEA Grade 6 revision book, KSh 200; or the KSh 500 Monthly Pass. For December, the holiday packs are KSh 120 per grade. Payment is by M-Pesa; see pricing. There are no per-topic charges, and a teacher checks every question (how we check). CBC Guides is not affiliated with KNEC or KICD.
