KUCCPS Placement After KCSE 2026: How It Works

CBC Guides teamUpdated 30 Oct 20263 min read

Last reviewed: 30 October 2026

Quick answer: After KCSE results are released, KUCCPS opens its student portal (kuccps.ac.ke) for applications to universities, TVET colleges and teacher training. You log in with your KCSE index number, KCSE year and a password (your KCPE index number or birth certificate number), choose courses you qualify for, pay the application fee and submit. Placement is competitive and based on your cluster weight. For the 2026 KCSE class, applications are expected to open after results in early 2027; KUCCPS has not announced dates.

What does KUCCPS do?

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service places government-sponsored students in public and private universities, national polytechnics, TVET colleges and teacher training colleges. Students placed in public universities can get government scholarships and loans; those placed in private universities are eligible for government loans, according to KUCCPS.

How to apply on the KUCCPS portal

  1. Go to kuccps.ac.ke and open the Students’ Portal.
  2. Log in with your KCSE index number, KCSE year and password (KCPE index number or birth certificate number).
  3. Check your cluster weights and the programmes you qualify for.
  4. Compare your cluster weight with previous cut-off points in the programme lists.
  5. Choose your courses in order of preference and pay the application fee shown on the portal.
  6. Submit and print or screenshot your application. You can revise choices while the window is open.

Cluster weights and cut-off points

Each degree course belongs to a cluster that needs four specific KCSE subjects. KUCCPS calculates your cluster weight for each cluster and shows it in the portal. KUCCPS says applicants cannot calculate it exactly themselves because it uses a Performance Index from KNEC data. A cut-off point is the cluster weight of the last student placed in a course on merit in a previous year, so it changes every year. Read KCSE grading and cluster subjects explained.

Minimum grades

The published minimum is C+ for a degree, C or C- for a diploma, D+ or D for a craft certificate and E for an artisan certificate, plus subject requirements. See KCSE minimum grades and courses for C-, D+ and below.

After placement

Download your admission letter from the institution, apply for funding (see HELB application after KCSE), and plan the months before reporting with our after-KCSE plan.

Still sitting KCSE?

Papers run until 20 November 2026. Use the KCSE 2026 timetable guide and practise with KCSE practice papers with answers.

Frequently asked questions

When does KUCCPS application open for KCSE 2026 candidates?

Not announced as of 30 October 2026. It usually opens a few weeks after KCSE results; for the 2024 class the first window ran from 28 March to 30 April 2025.

What do I need to log in to the KUCCPS portal?

Your KCSE index number, your KCSE year and a password, which is your KCPE index number or birth certificate number.

What mean grade do I need for a degree through KUCCPS?

C+ and above, plus the subject grades each course requires. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place.

Does KUCCPS place students in private universities?

Yes. KUCCPS places students in both public and private universities.

Why is my cluster weight different from my own calculation?

KUCCPS uses a Performance Index from KNEC data that applicants do not have, so self-calculations are only estimates.
